Paper Crafts WCMD Blog Hop!

Hello, and Happy World Card Making Day!  I was lucky enough to be one of last year's Paper Crafts Magazine WCMD winners, so I thought I would show you some of the cards that I sent in.  My best tips for winning this type of contest is to submit lots of cards (because the more you submit, the better your odds!) and think outside the box.  Don't make the same kind of card that you would every other day of the year.  They want something different and well executed.

Try a card with a different kind of fold...

Incorporate something trendy, like ombre...

You can't go wrong with die-cuts or twine!

Heat embossing can make a bold statement.  I added a pile of silver embossing powder to this card and as soon as it was heated, I stamped it with a heart stamp.  Then I filled the heart in with red embossing powder and heated it again.  I inked up the edges of the card with a glue pad and applied more embossing powder.  I also sprinkled a little bit of powder right on the card front.  It was a very fun card to make!

Once I had all of my die cuts stamped and adhered to my card, I covered the entire thing with clear embossing powder!  This card wasn't a WCMD winner, but it did get me through the first round of Gallery Idol!

This one is was fun too.  I crinkled up some tin foil and covered my cardstock with it.  I also stamped my robot onto the tin foil and "paper pieced" it.  I added a tiny bow, googly eyes, and a heart brad.  It's all in the details!

Here I started with white cardstock.  I heat embossed the heart with clear embossing powder and then painted over it with reinkers and a foam brush.  Then I was able to wipe the ink right off of the embossed image.

Masking is always nice, and so are flowers. =)

This card is very simple, but I jazzed it up by adding red flock to the flowers.

Ok, this card...hmmmm no idea what I was going for here.  But hey, it is different. lol

This here was my winning card.  It is simple but with plenty of detail. To get the two-tone leaves I started by inking them with yellow ink and then very lightly inked the edges with a rusty orange.  The scallops were cut from several different kraft patterned papers using my Silhouette.  I normally craft with very bright colors, so this was out of the box for me!

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today!
